Reviews for cold front

“There is something truly special when an author writes this well. Logan Cross is the person you want on your side. He’s not just another danger seeking action character. This story is rooted in procedural facts, realistic characters and a plot that keeps you turning pages. Every action scene is written with such detail and believability. But the storyline of who Logan Cross is as a human, truly captures your attention. The emotions of this character are real, raw and so true for anyone who has lived a career of service. I can’t wait for book two. Well done in your debut novel, DM Webber.”

“Being a fan of military/action thrillers, I knew this would be one in my wheelhouse. This, however, is the first book I've read where the hero is Boatswain's Mate First Class in the United States Coast Guard. Thinking that he will have a less stressful career as he did as a Coast Guard's elite Maritime Security Response Team, Logan Cross is content just doing his duties. When three questionable violent deaths happen… he knows something is not right. This is a fast-paced, action-packed, detail driven book. The hand-to-hand fighting sequences are some of the best I've read, and the descriptions of the boats and how they are driven make the reader feel they are right there. A very solid debut novel!! Well done!!”

“I loved the flashback moments woven into the story. They give us a good picture of who Logan Cross is and what shaped him. Those glimpses into his past add depth. I also loved the scenes with his wife, Melanie. They grounded the story and reminded me that he’s more than a Coast Guard BM caught in a high risk conspiracy. He’s a husband trying to protect the life he built… The pacing kept things moving, the tension kept climbing, and I stayed invested in how it would all unfold.”

“Solid, well researched (and lived in) detail. I enjoyed the authentic procedural elements and the New England setting with the accents and such. The plot was also layered with plenty of action and mystery that culminated in a well choreographed fight. Webber’s prose is clean and easy to follow. He avoids spending pages explaining technical specs that stall the plot like some authors with military experience do.”

“Having never read a military thriller, I wasn’t entirely sure how well it would grab me or keep me interested but this author does an incredible job of capturing my attention. This book is hard hitting with its action, intrigue and character depth. The main character, while flawed, is easy to root for due to his devotion to his job, his crew, and his family. He will do the hard things despite the potential consequences that follow. I laughed at the character interactions and found myself highly invested in not only the main character but all the supporting cast as well. I find it hard to believe this is a debut novel, as the author has an incredible sense of what the reader needs to know with minimal fluff and filler. Some of the sequences were heavily technical, but I think that for readers who enjoy military thrillers this would be right up their alley. This is going to be an incredible series and I cannot wait to read more!”

“Logan Cross is a compelling character whom I could visualize throughout the book. From his honorable past to his current position, Cross comes though as a likeable character whom you want to succeed; for him, his country, and his family. The book is easy to read and understand, even if you're not familiar with the Coast Guard ( like me), while being engrossing and insightful. I do not want to give away to much, but I wanted Cross to succeed and make the Chief pay.”
